Dedicated to the proposition that all minds should be free.

We're a liberal arts university with a larger mission.

Campus

It combines the southern charm of Georgia – columned buildings, green lawns, and tree-lined streets – with the resources of a leading liberal arts university – a faculty that cares about students, up-to-date technology in the classroom, and new student housing that promotes community in an apartment style setting.

The main campus is 43 acres. It is at the heart for academic and student life. Many students choose to live in apartments on or adjacent to the main campus or on West Campus, just several blocks away. West Campus is home to the intercollegiate, intramural fields and student apartments. In addition, East Campus at Lake Laurel is home to the outdoor education program.

Founded

The university was founded in 1889 as Georgia Normal & Industrial College. The school has also been named Georgia State College for Women, the Women's College of Georgia, Georgia College and since 1996, Georgia College & State University.

Accreditation

Georgia College & State University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award associate, baccalaureate, master’s and specialist degrees. The organization can be reached by mail at 1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, GA 30033-4097 or by telephone at (404) 679-4501.
