GuideStar, the leading source of information on the nation's nonprofit sector, has announced the appointment of Jacob Harold as president, effective October 1.
Harold, who currently leads the philanthropy program at the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation and has served on the board of GuideStar since 2010, will succeed Bob Ottenhoff, who has led the organization since 2002. Over the past six years, Harold has overseen more than $30 million in grantmaking at Hewlett, with a focus on building a twenty-first century infrastructure for "smart giving." Prior to joining the foundation, he served as a strategy advisor to nonprofits and foundations at the Bridgespan Group and worked as a climate change strategist in New Dehli, India, for the David and Lucile Packard Foundation. He also has worked for the Rainforest Action Network and Greenpeace USA.
"Jacob's service to GuideStar as both funder and board member has given him great insight into the organization. He was integral to the development of GuideStar's strategic plan, which offers a roadmap for GuideStar's future," said GuideStar board chair Feather Houstoun. "Jacob's experience working with a number of nonprofit organizations has given him the perspective from the other side of the funding table as well, which is critical to the organization's long-term success."
