Apply Now Our West Michigan Intensive English Language Institute (WMIELI) offers English as Second Language for students who do not meet the English proficiency requirement for their desired majors. Intensive English courses are offered at the beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels. Students are welcome to begin their English studies in the Fall, Spring, or Summer semesters, but all students who wish to enter the WMIEI must be present for the International Student Orientation.
Intensive English Program Reading, Writing, Grammar, and Speaking and Listening. Each of the classes follows an integrated approach to language learning. This means that you will use all of your English skills in each of your classes. For example, you could be asked to write a short essay in your grammar class or give a short presentation in your reading class.
Many of the classes also include cultural activities including >visits to the local community and Ferris academic programs. Students are encouraged to participate in activities campus wide and in the community.
Admission to WMIELI
Students must apply to the University and be eligible for admission in one academic program, based on high school and/or college grades.
All required documents must be submitted by the application deadline set by the university.
No TOEFL or other standardized test score is required. WMIELI students will take a placement test when they arrive at Ferris.
Students may move on to their desired academic programs once they achieve the proficiency level required for unconditional admission (TOEFL ibt 61, TOEFL itp 500, IELTS 5.5, itep 4, MeLab 72).
The cost of the Intensive English Program is US $6720 per semester for the 2014-2015 academic year.
