Scholarships for
Ferris Statewide Students

Ferris offers a wide variety of scholarship opportunities to its students.

Be sure you begin applying for Ferris State University Scholarships beginning December 1. Most scholarship deadlines are May 1, but they do vary.

» Ferris Statewide Endowed Scholarship: All students enrolled in an off-campus, site–based, undergraduate program for at least six credit hours are eligible to apply. Click for details.

Three of the six credit hours must be Ferris State University credit hours to be considered. Students must also have a minimum college GPA of 2.3 or higher, and financial need determined by the FAFSA. (If the applicant does not have a college GPA at the time of application, a 3.0 high school GPA may be considered.) The award amount is $1000 per academic year and is non–renewable. Applications must be received by July 1.

» Ferris Statewide Freshman Achievement Scholarship: This scholarship will be automatically awarded to the first 25 students who meet the scholarship criteria. Click for details.

Students eligible for the Ferris Statewide Freshman Achievement Scholarship must have:

  • A high school grade point average of 3.7 or higher, AND
  • An ACT composite score of 29 or higher, OR
  • An SAT combined math and reading score of 1290 or higher

Students will receive $2,000/year, not to exceed $1,000/semester.

  • The University uses the high school grade point average provided by the student's high school. For example, if the student's high school does not use a weighted GPA for AP classes, neither will the University. The high school GPA will be rounded to the hundredth decimal point.
  • The University will use the highest ACT composite or SAT combined score provided. Scores from different ACT tests will not be added together to create a composite score.
  • GED scores can be substituted for high school grade point averages for first time attending college students.
  • To be awarded the scholarship, students must be admitted to an off-campus undergraduate degree granting program, excluding online, certificate and pre- programs.
  • To receive the scholarship award, students must be registered for at least 3 Ferris credits.

The Ferris Statewide Freshman Achievement Scholarship is non-renewable.

» Ferris Statewide Adult Learner Life Changing Scholarship: This scholarship will be awarded to the first 25 newly admitted students who meet the scholarship criteria and submit all application materials. Click for details.

Students eligible for the Ferris Statewide Adult Learner Life Changing Scholarship must:

  • Have been out of high school or college for 10 years or more.
  • Submit the scholarship application, essay and resume.
  • Not be a recipient of the Ferris Statewide Freshman Achievement or Transfer Achievement Scholarships

Students will receive $2,000/year, not to exceed $1,000/semester.

  • To be awarded the scholarship, students must be admitted to an off-campus undergraduate degree granting program, excluding online, certificate and pre- programs.
  • To receive the scholarship award, students must be registered for at least 3 Ferris credits.
  • Readmitted Ferris students are not eligible for the Ferris Statewide Adult Learner Life Changing Scholarship.

The Ferris Statewide Adult Learner Life Changing Scholarship is non-renewable.

» Ferris Statewide Transfer Achievement Scholarship: This scholarship will be automatically awarded to the first 75 students who meet the scholarship criteria. Click for details.

Students eligible for the Ferris Statewide Transfer Achievement Scholarship must have:

  • A minimum of 24 accepted transfer credit hours
  • A minimum cumulative transfer grade point average of 3.5 or higher

Students will receive $2,000/year, not to exceed $1,000/semester.

  • The University uses the transfer grade point average by calculating all transferred grades even if they are from multiple colleges or universities.
  • To be awarded the scholarship, students must be admitted to an off-campus undergraduate degree granting program, excluding online, certificate and pre- programs.
  • To receive the scholarship award, students must be registered for at least 3 Ferris credits.
  • Readmitted Ferris students are not eligible for the Ferris Statewide Transfer Achievement Scholarship.

The Ferris Statewide Transfer Achievement Scholarship is non-renewable.

» The Roberta Teahen Scholarship: Students wishing to be considered for this scholarship must be admitted to and enrolled at a Ferris State University Statewide (off-campus) location for at least 5 credit hours. Click for details.

Applicants must demonstrate financial need by the completion of a FAFSA. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.75. Students 25 years of age and older will be given preference. The award amount is approximately $750 and is renewable. Application must be received by May 1.

» Ferris/GRCC Assist Scholarship: A scholarship will be awarded to a full-time or part-time undergraduate or graduate student enrolled with both Ferris State University and Grand Rapids Community College. Click for details.

Applicants must demonstrate financial need by the completion of a FAFSA. The recipient shall have a minimum 2.0 GPA at the time of application. The award will be made only if highly qualified applicants apply. Questions about the award should be addressed to the Ferris Statewide financial aid officer(616) 643-5742. » Digital Animation and Game Design Student Scholarship: A scholarship will be awarded to a Ferris student majoring in Digital Animation and Game Design, to be used exclusively for educational expenses. Click for details.

  • Submit an application and a resume.
  • Provide a one-page typed essay, single or double spaced. Describe why your outstanding characteristics (academically, professionally and community service) qualify you for this scholarship and how this money would help you achieve your academic goals.
  • Have a minimum GPA of 2.00.
  • Two references. Please use the attached form.
