Message from the Dean of Student Life

Welcome to the Commuter and Nontraditional Student Virtual Resource Center, a website developed by the Office of the Dean of Student Life as a repository of information about services and resources available to students who commute to the Big Rapids main campus.  We recognize that those students who are not living on campus should continue to maintain a personal connection to the university.  This website is tailored specifically to do the following:

  • To give commuter and nontraditional students a virtual center that is filled with a wealth of information to aid them in having a successful Ferris experience,
  • To ensure that commuter and nontraditional students have access to opportunities that help develop social networks and peer support,
  • To help our commuter and nontraditional students understand the processes/procedures to support their academic success, and
  • To provide our commuter and nontraditional students with resources to address unique concerns both on and off campus.

There are many resources available not only on campus but also in the Big Rapids and Mecosta county areas.  We want to let our commuter and nontraditional students know that they matter and that we care about the experiences they are having while attending Ferris.  Feel free to review our monthly newsletter that highlights unique concerns of this population of students and some specific options and solutions to getting these concerns addressed.
