Master of Science in Nursing
Concentrations in Administration, Education and Informatics

Hello from the MSN Program Coordinator! Susan Owens

It is my pleasure to welcome you to our website. I would like to tell you some interesting key points about our MSN program. We have three majors, nursing education, nursing informatics, and nursing administration. Our program is focused on these majors to meet the complex needs of the health care delivery system where we are currently experiencing a nurse educator shortage, as well as needing more nurses who are leaders in informatics and administration.

One of the key aspects of the program is that it is flexible. Students can choose to take one to four courses at a time. There is also the flexibility of increasing or decreasing one’s course load, depending on personal and professional circumstances. Students do not have to worry that they will be penalized if they decide not to take a course when it is offered. Students are never held up because a course is not being offered when they need to take it. Instead, we find alternative courses that meet the student’s learning needs.

Secondly, our program is adult student-oriented and user-friendly. Most, if not all, of the courses are offered online. Only a couple of the informatics specialty courses require a few Saturday face-to-face meetings for the purpose of database training. In an online format, students have the opportunity to interact with peers from inside and outside the state. This provides a diverse learning community where peers exchange ideas and learn to problem-solve collectively. With 24 hour/7day a week access, students can choose when to come to the learning community, complete assignments, and interact with their peers and instructor.

Another key point is our capstone pieces are manageable in a working person’s schedule. Students select a scholarly project that are coincides with their major which can be completed in one semester. The practicum hours can be extended to the following semester as necessary for students who need additional time to complete the practice requirements.

Please view additional information about our MSN program on this website. If you would like to discuss our program more directly, please feel free to contact me via email at owenss3@ferris.edu with your questions. Thank you for your interest in our quality MSN program and I look forward to hearing from you in the future.

Sincerely,
Susan Owens, PhD(c), RN, FNP-BC
