University Committee on Discipline (UCD)
Although the vast majority of hearings are conducted by an individual hearing officer, there are occasions each year when the University Committee on Discipline is convened to resolve a case. Incidents of the most serious nature – sexual assault, academic misconduct, physical abuse – or those cases involving possible suspension or dismissal are ones most commonly referred to the UCD. Cases are referred at the discretion of the Director of Student Conduct. A UCD consists of three trained volunteers: one faculty member, one staff member, and one student justice, and the Director of Student Conduct or his/her designee oversees the hearing.
Students whose case is heard before the University Committee on Discipline has the right to be assisted by a University provided UCD Educator. Information regarding the UCD Educator program is provided to the student with their notification information.
