The mission of CEPA is to inform educational leaders and policymakers on issues related to the development, implementation and consequences of education policies. CEPA examines policies through multiple perspectives, paying particular attention to the impact of policies on social justice and educational equity across P-20 educational settings.
CEPA provides assistance to districts, schools, agencies, and organizations through policy research and evaluation. Through the sponsorship of conferences and forums, the center also brings together key leaders to discuss important policy topics.
CEPA is supported by Neag faculty, staff and graduate students who specialize in educational leadership and policy. In addition, CEPA maintains affiliations with other organizations and scholars who engage in our work. CEPA Associates have a range of experience, and include former classroom teachers, administrators, and research analysts. CEPA Associates have advanced expertise in quantitative and qualitative research methods and are well equipped to conduct field research and large database analyses.
As part of their ongoing study of the CommPACT Schools Initiative, CEPA researchers provide updates of their work via four new policy briefs. The study is being underwritten by the National Education Association (NEA) Foundation. CommPACT schools are existing public schools that follow a collaborative reform process, are allowed to alter union contracts, and are given operational autonomy from their host districts. The study will inform policy on comprehensive school reform, particularly for low-performing schools serving disadvantaged student populations.
