Haitian TPS Event Summary

Haitian TPS Application Assistance Event
(June 11, 2011)

In a truly record-setting show of dedication, over 130 Citizenship Now! volunteers turned up to lend a helping hand to the community during our TPS Application Assistance Event  on Saturday, June 11th. Among these enthusiastic volunteers were individuals from many different fields of expertise, each bringing a unique skill to the table.

A number of organizations co-sponsored the event, including the Legal Aid Society. Jojo Annobil, Attorney-in-Charge of Legal Aid’s Immigration Law Unit, commented on the success of the event: "The Legal Aid Society was proud to be a partner in this well-run and well-attended TPS registration drive.  The extraordinary turnout of applicants— 421 applicants received comprehensive advice and application assistance, with about 300 more referred to other outreach sites for assistance — shows the urgent need for free legal services for low-income immigrants in New York City."

The event was also co-sponsored by the American Immigration Lawyer’s Association (AILA), the Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs (MOIA), the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA), Assembly Members Rhoda Jacobs and Karim Camara, and Council Members Jumaane Williams and Mathieu Eugene.

CUNY Citizenship Now! thanks all our volunteers for the invaluable help they have provided to their New York City neighbors.
