This website has 2 distinct purposes: To provide a consolidated, ongoing site to access Blackboard support resources and training materials, and to provide information on the Project to upgrade CUNY’s current Blackboard environment to the latest 9.1 version.
The Workshop Schedules page contains links to Blackboard workshops held at individual campuses. The website also includes a schedule of virtual workshop sessions offered to the entire CUNY community. Additionally, there is a CUNY-wide Training Calendar that lists courses offered at all the campuses that have chosen to publish their training schedules.
User Guides has links to documentation and videos created by CUNY schools, the Blackboard Upgrade Project Training Task Force, and Blackboard Inc. This information covers what’s new in Blackboard 9.1 as well as all the essential functions within this new version of Blackboard.
Blackboard 9.1 Upgrade Project
The goal of the Blackboard 9.1 Upgrade Project is to successfully upgrade the CUNY Blackboard environment from version 8.0 to version 9.1. This upgrade enables us to keep pace with Blackboard Inc.’s evolution of its Learning Management System and benefit from several functionality enhancements and new features in the latest version.
The Blackboard Upgrade Project was initiated in October, 2011. The Timeline page displays an overview of key activities since that time and the plans for the rest of the project. The FAQ page contains answers to the most commonly asked questions about the upgrade project.
The project is being driven by a Steering Committee comprised of campus Blackboard Administrators and Faculty from both Senior Colleges and a Community College, working closely with CIS’ Project Management Office and Application Support teams. Three task forces have also been created to make sure Training materials are available, the system is fully Tested and the project is appropriately Communicated at the campuses. The Steering Committee and the three Task Forces also work closely with CUNY’s Blackboard Subcommittee of the Committee on Academic Technology and the Blackboard Management Council in order to receive their direction and input and communicate back to the campus representatives the status of the upgrade activities.
The main upgrade to Blackboard 9.1 occurred at the end of the Spring ’12 term. As Spring 2012 courses were underway at the time of the upgrade, they needed to be excluded from that process and are being manually migrated into Blackboard 9.1 on a rolling basis during July. During the summer and fall, the Training and Communication Task Forces will continue to provide materials and information as needed to prepare CUNY users.
We hope you find this website and its resources useful. If you have any questions, your local campus Blackboard administrator can help. They can be found here.
