About Blackboard at CUNY

CUNY Central Information Services (CUNY CIS) manages and supports an enterprise-level Blackboard environment for use at all CUNY campuses, together with staff and instructional leaders on the campuses. The goal of Blackboard support at CUNY is to proactively develop the CUNY Blackboard environment in order to deliver to the CUNY community the latest product enhancements from Blackboard, Inc. in a timely and scheduled fashion. Additionally, the project seeks to create and make available additional training resources for the benefit of the CUNY community.

Overseeing Blackboard administration at CUNY is a Steering Committee comprised of campus Blackboard Administrators and Faculty from a variety of campuses, in partnership with CIS’ Project Management Office and Application Support teams. Three task forces have also been created to make sure training materials are available, the system is fully tested, and the project is appropriately communicated at the campuses. The Steering Committee and the three Task Forces also work closely with CUNY’s Blackboard Subcommittee of the Committee on Academic Technology and the Blackboard Management Council in order to receive their contributions and communicate back to the campus representatives news of various committee activities. These groups convene as needed when new Blackboard development projects warrant.

There have been many major milestones for Blackboard use at CUNY. Starting with a successful upgrade of Blackboard version 9.1 Service Pack 7 to version 9.1 Service Pack 13 in December 2013, the ongoing efforts to develop the Blackboard platform included the installation of the Blackboard Content Management System in August 2014. The most recent update was completed in December 2014 and offers new features and functionality. The Timeline page displays an overview of key activities over the last several years and upgrade plans going forward, as new projects are planned. The FAQ page contains answers to the most commonly asked questions.

We hope you find this website and its resources useful. If you have any questions, your local campus Blackboard administrator can help.
