Deputy Chief Operating Officer
Ron Spalter serves as Deputy Chief Operating Officer of the City University of New York. In this capacity he has responsibilities for pursuing the University's goals with respect to productivity and efficiencies, sustainability including energy conservation, and introducing new information systems and practices to further the goals of an integrated University.
Prior to joining the Chancellery, Ron served in several positions at Borough of Manhattan Community College, culminating in his appointment as Vice President for Administration and Planning; and at City College, serving as Director of Human Resources and University Vice President. His experience during his 40 years at CUNY includes oversight of several hundred million dollars in construction, as well as developing and deploying information system applications and infrastructures. He has also managed large operating and capital budgets and has been accountable to more than 10 college presidents for a broad range of administrative activities including Finance, Facilities, Strategic Planning, Human Resources, Enrollment Management, Information Technology and Economic Development. He has chaired or served as Treasurer for several campus and University related corporate entities. Ron uses the tools of change management to support CUNY’s efforts to conserve energy by managing our facilities in a sustainable fashion, and helping our community achieve greater energy consciousness. He also serves as a member of the COO’s emergency management team.
Ron received his B.S. in Business, Magna Cum Laude, from LIU in 1969 and earned an MBA from NYU in 1971.
Ron has taught Business Management at BMCC, Higher Education Administration in the Graduate School of Education at NYU, and currently serves as an Adjunct Faculty member in the Higher Education program at Baruch College's Graduate School of Public Affairs.
Ron is a native New Yorker, married for 45 years, with one daughter who works with college students whose disabilities create challenges to study and employment.
