The Emergency Communications Department serves as the main 911 answering point and emergency dispatch center for Hanover County, Virginia and the Town of Ashland.
This is a totally civilian department within the County government, and it provides call taking, dispatching, and support service to approximately 23 various departments and agencies, which includes the Sheriff's Office, Ashland Town Police Department, Fire Department, EMS Department, Animal Control and a number of other public safety and public service agencies and departments.
The department uses its four dispatch consoles and four call taking consoles to handle approximately 80,000 public safety calls per year.
