New 'Trouble-Ticket' Entry Page for CNS

On Monday, February 20, 2012, CNS will upgrade its Remedy trouble-ticket/service-request software to a newer and more feature rich Remedy IT Service Management Suite. This software will look and behave differently from the previous CNS page used to report problems and request services.

If you currently submit tickets online from one of the CNS web-sites for services such as networking, hosting services, mainframe systems, etc., you can continue to use the same links as you do now. Or, you can go directly to http://request.it.ufl.edu. Click on the "for UF IT Units" button to enter a CNS ticket; other buttons will be added as more units join the new system.

If you are reporting a system outage or other emergency, please send us a ticket, but also telephone us at 352/392-2291. We have staff on deck 24/7 to field emergency calls.

NOTE: This change applies only to direct requests to CNS, regarding CNS-specific services. If you need to put in a ticket with the UF Computing Help Desk, please continue to go to http://helpdesk.ufl.edu.

In the next phase of the project, the UF Computing Help Desk ticket-system will be merged into this new Remedy system, creating a single, unified interface for reporting problems, requesting assistance, and requesting new services for all UF IT services.

UF Restricted Data Use on Mobile Computing and Storage Devices

University citizens must be ever-vigilant about potential restricted data losses. Data losses and theft of restricted information is a possible result of the increased use of mobile computing and storage devices like laptops, smartphones, and USB flash drives. In response to the increased risk posed by highly portable devices, a Mobile Computing and Storage Devices policy was prepared by the Information Security & Compliance Advisory Committee, part of the UF Information Technology (UFIT) governance structure.

The plan is organized within the six areas of governance now in place for IT at UF - Administrative Systems, Education and Outreach, Research Computing, Information Security and Compliance, Shared Infrastructure, and Web Services - and presents the expected outcomes and planned strategic actions in each of the governance areas.

This strategic plan represents the collective voice of UF's faculty, staff, and students who participated in its formation.
