Monday (May 12)
Students will cram a semester’s worth of learning into three short weeks during Maymester, which begins today. For information about summer classes or the academic calendar, contact News Services’ Teresa Hopkins (656-1222).
Friday-Sunday (May 16-18)
Real tigers visit “tiger town” when Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey brings its new BOOM A RING circus show to Littlejohn Coliseum. Circus-goers will enjoy an up-close and personal experience close to beautiful white tigers, majestic Asian elephants and thrilling acrobats from around the world. Shows will be at 7 p.m. Friday, 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday. For details, contact Mary Kern (656-6676) or Angela Nixon in News Services (656-0382).
Saturday-Sunday (May 17-18)
More than 200 girls ages 6 to 17 will get a taste of Clemson life with the 10th annual Bring Your Daughter to Clemson Weekend, sponsored by the Women’s Alumni Council. Girls will get a personal orientation to the college experience by staying overnight in a residence hall; meeting professors, admissions staff, students and athletes; and exploring non-traditional career opportunities. Girls can get hands-on experience in various exploratory tracks including Math Out of the Box, Mechanical Engineering for Girls, Graphic Communications, Ice Cream Flavor Development and Production and an Entomology activity with Monarch butterflies. Participants can also explore the Brooks Center with theater activities and see a simulated hospital environment. Different activities and tracks are designed for specific age groups: elementary school, middle school and high school.
Saturday’s schedule includes:
- Noon-1:30 p.m., Tailgate party and kickoff lunch, Stadium Suites residence hall courtyard. This event includes a book signing with Ann Ratcliff Russell, author of “Legacy of a Southern Woman: Anna Calhoun Clemson 1817-1875.”
- 1:45-4:30 p.m., girls will break into groups for various age-appropriate exploratory tracks
- 4:30-5:30 p.m., admissions presentation, Stadium Suites lobby
- 6:30-9 p.m., cosmic bowling, Union Recreation Center
- 7-8 p.m. and 8-9 p.m., tours of Woodland Cemetery, located beside Memorial Stadium
- 7-9 p.m., various athletic activities at Fike Recreation Center
- 9:15 p.m., ice cream social and flavor competition and book signing with Trent Allen, author of “There’s Something in These Hills,” Stadium Suites common room
Sunday activities include:
- 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m., Breakfast of Champions, Tiger Den at Memorial Stadium. Girls will have a chance to meet with Clemson coaches and student-athletes.
- 10:20 a.m., rubbing Howard’s Rock and running down The Hill at Memorial Stadium
