Nursing and Allied Health

Nursing Degree Programs:

Allied Health Degree Programs:

Nursing (A.S.N.)

Clarion's Associate of Science in Nursing Program offers both a comprehensive and intensive form of nursing education in a balanced curriculum of nursing and liberal arts. At the end of two years, the student will have earned an Associate of Science in Nursing degree and be eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) to become a registered nurse (RN). It is fully accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC).

Nursing (B.S.N.)

Clarion's accredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program (NLNAC) builds upon the background and knowledge attained in the A.S.N. Program. Its primary goal is to provide educational experiences designed to promote scientific inquiry, creative thinking, critical judgment, and professional development. Although the program is designed as a two-year curriculum for full-time students, individuals have the option of taking courses part-time after admission.

Nursing (M.S.N.)

Many nursing professionals are finding additional education a must for the ever-changing medical field. The Master of Science Program, in cooperation with Edinboro and Slippery Rock Universities, is designed so that students may attend part-time or full-time.

Master of Science in Nursing

Clarion, Edinboro and Slippery Rock Universities offer a joint MSN Program that graduates advanced practice nurses in two tracks: Family Nurse Practitioner and Nurse Educator. Family Nurse Practitioner graduates will be eligible for Pennsylvania certification as registered nurse practitioners (CRNP). They will be qualified to perform medical diagnosis or prescription of medical therapeutic or corrective measures in collaboration with and under the direction of a physician licensed to practice medicine in this Commonwealth. Nurse Educator graduates are prepared to teach in both academic and clinical settings.

For individuals already holding a master's degree in nursing, options include a post-master's certificate as a FNP, which is individually designed for nurse practitioners certified in another specialty area, or a second master's degree in the FNP concentration or a post-master's certificate as an NE, both open to any master's-prepared nurse.

Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences

Clarion University's Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences degree program prepares graduates as radiologic technologists at the professional level. The program affords students the opportunity to attain a scientific knowledge base in radiography as well as a liberal arts education that will expand their role and function as a professional. Additionally, the program provides the graduate with the knowledge and skills necessary to advance in the science and practice of medical imaging and provides a foundation for graduate education in master's and doctorate programs. Clarion University accepts transfer credits from other accredited colleges and universities. Certain guidelines, outlined in the undergraduate catalog, have been established to provide uniformity of transfer standards.

Associate of Science in Respiratory Care

Clarion University’s Associate of Science in Respiratory Care degree program prepares graduates as respiratory care practitioners at the advanced level (RRT-Registered Respiratory Therapist). The program affords students the opportunity to attain a clinical knowledge base in respiratory care as well as a liberal arts education that will aid in their role and function as health care professionals. Graduates of the program will be eligible to take the Written Registry Examination and the Clinical Simulation Examination administered by the National Board for Respiratory Care. Clarion University accepts transfer credits from other accredited colleges and universities. Certain guidelines, outlined in the undergraduate catalog, have been established to provide uniformity of transfer standards.

Associate of Science in Allied Health

The Associate of Science in Allied Health degree is offered only at Clarion University's Pittsburgh Site and provides 10 general education courses (30 credits) for West Penn Hospital School of Nursing (WPHSON) diploma requirements. Courses include Anatomy and Physiology I & II, Microbiology, Nutrition, Writing, Logic, Ethics, Microcomputers, Psychology, and Sociology. This degree program provides a stepping stone for WPHSON graduates to easily transition into Clarion University's Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) program, which is also offered at the Pittsburgh site, as well as on-line.
