"Metropolitan Mentors Network (MMNet): Growing an Urban STEM Talent Pool Across New York City"

The purpose of our grant is to cultivate a network of mentors and opportunities centered on New York City College of Technology (City Tech), one of the campuses of the City University of New York (CUNY), with the goal of increasing the number of students receiving associate and bachelor’s degrees within science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. People with these majors will be needed in the workforce in the years ahead to maintain the nation’s economic competitiveness.

This grant provides qualified City Tech students with:

1. a $100 stipend for completing a college credit-bearing course in the summer before the freshman year. The course provides the opportunity for students to learn skills that will help them succeed in college, while working creatively on group projects, in a laboratory setting. Weekly trips to local industries and government labs are planned for students to learn more about career opportunities.
2. paid internships during the academic year.
3. membership in a community of scholars.
4. employment opportunities during the summer, while in college.
5. personalized mentoring and career counseling by graduate students and concerned faculty members.
