Instructions for Importing your students from Banner Web
This document covers:

To add students to a NEW Course:
  1. Click Manage Course


  2. Under Manage Students, click Add Students


  3. Under "Import from Global Database" go to the box"


  4. To add MULTIPLE students enter your Banner Web CRN number(CRN)
    preceded by the letters cgcc and followed by fa2004


  5. For example, cgcc81234fa2004

    Note: If adding students for a different semester, substitute "sp" for spring or "su" for summer or "fa" for fall below.

    Examples: cgcc 82345sp2005 or cgcc82345su2005.
    Also, 2003 reflects the year.
  6. Click the Select button. WebCT will search the database for registered students. A list with checkmarks will appear.


  7. Click Select at the top of the list.Your gradebook should now appear

To add students to a course you used PREVIOUSLY:

Note: If you have deleted all students from the gradebook, please use the "NEW" course instructions.)
  1. Click Manage Course


  2. Under Manage Students, click Add Students


  3. Under "Import from Global Database" go to the box "To update
    your existing student list" and enter your Banner Web CRN number preceded by the letters cgcc and followed by fa2004. For example, cgcc81234fa2004


  4. Click the Synchronize button.WebCT will search the database for registered students. TWO lists with checkmarks will appear. The left list is new students to be added to your course. The right is old students to be deleted. (Note. If you wish to keep any old students in your course, uncheck their names.)


  5. Once the lists are correct, click the Synchronize button
    at the top of the lists. Your new gradebook should now appear.

If you want to use your course for MULTIPLE sections:

  1. Upload the first section using one of the above methods.


  2. To add subsequent sections: From the gradebook page go to "Manage Students" and select Add Students from the dropdown menu. Click Go.


  3. Under "Import from Global Database" go to the box "To update your existing student list" and enter your Banner Web CRN number preceded by the letters cgcc followed by fa2004. For example,

    cgcc81234fa2004

  4. Click the Synchronize button.WebCT will search the database for registered students. TWO lists with checkmarks will appear. The left list is new students to be added to your course. The right is the previous section(s) you uploaded.


  5. Scroll to the bottom of the frame and uncheck the "Select all students shown box". This will allow the sections to be combined.

  6. Click the Synchronize button.Your new gradebook, with both sections, should now appear.

To To UPDATE your course during the semester (synchronizing with Banner Web):

Follow the instructions above for "To add students to a courseyou used PREVIOUSLY". The WebCT database will be updated at the end of the drop/add phase and throughout the semester. At times your Banner Web roll may look different from your WebCT student list. This is due to the lag time in moving data from Banner Web to the WebCT database. We recommend that you synchronize your course periodically so that your Banner Web and WebCT roles will match.
