The Connecticut Clearinghouse

The Connecticut Clearinghouse is the state's primer library resource center for information on substance abuse and mental health disorders, prevention and health promotion, treatment and recovery, wellness and other related topics. A program of Wheeler Clinic, Inc., the Clearinghouse is funded by the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services.

The mission of The Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) is to improve the quality of life of the people of Connecticut by providing an integrated network of comprehensive, effective and efficient mental health and addiction services that foster self-sufficiency, dignity and respect. They are a recovery-oriented healthcare service agency.

is the United States government's principal agency for protecting the health of all Americans and providing essential human services, especially for those who are least able to help themselves.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration ( SAMHSA) sharply focuses its vision on building resilience and facilitating recovery for people with - or at - risk for substance abuse disorders. SAMHSA is utilizing every last resource in its current endeavors. SAMHSA's National Mental Health Information Center: Center for Mental Services contains a plethora of resources such as hotlines tailored to individual needs, informational resources focused solely on the care of children, a Mental Health Dictionary, and A Mental Health Services Locator. They can also be reached via telephone at 1-800-789-2647, furthering their mission of providing information for users of mental health services and their families, the general public, policy makers, providers, and the media.

Information Center staff members are skilled at listening and responding to questions from the public and professionals. The staff quickly directs callers to Federal, State, and local organizations dedicated to treating and preventing mental illness. The Information Center also has information on Federal grants, conferences, and other events.

The Connecticut Council on Problem Gambling

is a private, not-for-profit organization affiliated with the National Council on Problem Gambling. The council's mission is to reduce the prevalence and impact of problem and pathological (compulsive) gambling on individuals, families and society. They can be reached at (203) 453-0138. The National Council on Problem Gambling Helpline is equipped with trained professional and is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 1-800-346-6238.
