The Application of Knowledge is Power.
Natural Helpers are CCSU students who work out of the Office of Alcohol and Drug Education, part of the Counseling & Wellness Center. They volunteer their time to be a peer resource to students. Natural Helpers are nominated by their peers, staff and faculty. They are nominated because they have good listening skills, are leaders, and have a genuine concern for others. Natural Helpers receive training on preventing substance abuse and promoting wellness.
Natural Helpers are available to their friends and peers. They are also trained in substance abuse prevention topics to present in classrooms, residence halls, and to various groups on campus.
Natural Helpers attend one all-day training during the Fall semester. At this training they learn about important health and prevention topics, many of which they will use on campus. During a fall retreat, they receive additional training and prepare for programs. Ongoing training happens throughout the year during afternoon meetings and evening meetings.
