Important information regarding REPEAT COURSEWORK

Changes in federal regulations impact how financial aid can be used for classes taken more than once. A repeated course is eligible for financial aid if it has never been completed with a grade of D- or higher (passed).

Continuing student awards are currently being process, please check your CCSU Pipeline.

As awards are done an email will be sent to the students CCSU email address.

Financial Aid Priority Processing Deadline for 2013 - 2014

INCOMING STUDENTS:

MARCH 1 is the priority processing deadline for all Incoming applicants to file their 2013-14 FAFSA.  If you meet this deadline you will be considered "on time" and eligible for need-based loans, grants, scholarships and work study.  You do not have to be accepted by CCSU prior to filing your FAFSA. 

CONTINUING or RETURNING STUDENTS:

April 16 is the priority processing deadline for all continuing applicants and continuing students to file their 2013-14 FAFSA.  If you meet this deadline you will be considered "on time" and eligible for need-based loans, grants, scholarships and work study.  

You may file your FAFSA after the posted priority processing deadline and your aid will be limited to Direct Federal Stafford loans and Pell Grant if eligible

Completing and submitting a FAFSA is free.  Charging students or parents a fee for completing and submitting the FAFSA is prohibited by law. If you reach a website requiring payment, you have NOT reached the official FAFSA website.

Federal Pell Grant Eligibility

Congress adopted a new provision that will affect students Federal Pell Grant eligibility. The amount of Federal Pell Grant funds a student may receive over his or her lifetime is limited by a new federal law to be the equivalent of six years of full-time enrollment.

Students will be able to check their Pell Grant eligibility on-line beginning mid-July at by logging into the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) Student Access Web site at http://www.nslds.ed.gov/nslds_SA/. Students will need to use their Federal Student Aid PIN to login to this site to view their Pell Grant eligibility on the Financial Aid Review page.

To be eligible for financial aid a student must be matriculated at CCSU, a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen, and taking at least six hours per semester.

The Financial Aid Office uses the CCSU E-mail address set up by the student in the student's Pipeline Account to contact the student about financial aid matters.

FAFSA for 2013 – 2014!  Planning to attend CCSU beginning this fall and expect you will need financial aid to help pay your tuition and fees?  Do not worry; you have until June 1, 2014, to complete your FAFSA, even if you have not been accepted.

Reminder to Graduate Students

Graduate students are no longer eligible to borrow a SUBSIDIZED Federal Direct Loans.  Graduate students will be eligible to borrow an Unsubsidized Federal Direct Loan up to $20,500 for the academic year. Below is a description of the Unsubsidized Federal Direct Loan Program.

The Unsubsidized Federal Direct Loan can replace all or part of the family contribution. However, the amount of the loan cannot be more than the difference between the cost of education and any financial assistance you will receive from the school and any outside source. Interest accrues on the unsubsidized Federal Direct Loan while you are in school and during the six-month grace period before repayment begins. You have the option of paying the interest or to add the interest to the principal.

Because of this new federal legislative change, we urge you to carefully consider the amount you may borrow. Only borrow what you need!
