The Bureau of Economic and Business Research (BEBR or Office of Research) has served the College of Business and the state of Illinois for well over sixty years with research and outreach programs focusing on the U.S. and state economies. Applied research, economic forecasting, database management, and the dissemination of research findings are among the Bureau's chief activities.
Mission Statement: The primary mission of the Bureau of Economic and Business Research is to foster research by the College of Business faculty and graduate students and to disseminate research results to a national and international audience.
In support of this mission, the office engages in a variety of activities, including production and distribution of faculty working papers, and publication/editorial management of research-related journals.
BEBR coordinates and supports the activities of the college Research and Learning Centers by providing administrative services, financial support and management, and research assistance.
Primary Functions :
Research-related funding. BEBR offers an annual spring competition for ¼-time research assistants for the summer. Faculty members submit applications and the Research Policy Committee selects the recipients.
BEBR also coordinates the annual Irwin Fellowship and the Ferber Award.
Coordination of data resources for research. BEBR subscribes to the following Wharton Research Data Services on behalf of the College of Business faculty and graduate students. There is no charge for those College of Business WRDS accounts. However, any account requests outside the College of Business are billable at $500 annually for Students and $2,500 annually for Faculty.
