Library and Academic IT

Not just a library, but a center of academic, cultural and technological learning.

The Brooklyn College Library — the most advanced in the City University of New York system — is the academic, cultural and technological pulse of the college. Students, faculty, staff and members of the surrounding community not only enjoy access to the 1.3 million print materials housed at the library, but also more than 68,000 electronic books and journals. The library provides access to a wireless network and online databases that offer better researched results than typical Internet search engines. It is also home to some rare artifacts, including historic articles, letters and clippings, and art and sculpture from artists famous and unknown. Additional services include, but are not limited to: laptop and iPad loans; the 24/7 Library Café, which houses a Starbucks and computer facility; the New Media Center, which provides audio/visual spaces; faculty training and development; software skills courses; and specially trained librarians who can assist with subject-specific research. And for students interested in the library as a field of learning, a minor in archival studies is offered in conjunction with the Department of History.
