VISA CHANGES: April 2012

There are several changes to Student visas (Tier 4) and Post study work visas (part of Tier 1).

From 6 April 2012, if you want to work in England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland after you complete your studies, you may be eligible to apply for a Tier 2 (General) visa.  The UK’s post-study work visa scheme (part of Tier 1), is closed to new applicants.

Tier 2 will be open to recent graduates with a Bachelor or Master’s degree, PhD, PGCE or PGDE from a UK recognised or listed body. You can only apply if you have an offer of a skilled job from an employer who is a licensed sponsor with UKBA. The job must also meet certain salary criteria.

NEW ADMINISTRATOR OF CHEVENING SCHOLARSHIPS

From 1 April 2012, the British Council ceased to be the administrator of the Chevening Scholarships programme and will no longer be able to deal with Chevening enquiries.

The FCO and the Association Commonwealth Universities (ACU) have set up an email contact point for the management of 2013/14 Chevening application process.

For all enquiries please contact  info@chevening.org – the new email gateway for Chevening enquiries

Those existing candidates who have been provisionally selected as a Chevening Scholar for the 2012/2013 academic year will be contacted by the new administrator

LONDON 2012

In less than a year, the world's attention will turn to London for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The Olympics next year aspires to be the greenest and most sustainable Olympics ever with the redevelopment of East London . The installation of sustainable infrastructure and transport systems, among others, utilising eco-friendly methods all work towards this end.

In the following months, the British Embassy and the British Council will spearhead events and initiatives in the Philippines to drum up the Olympic event.
