CELTA Courses in Saudi Arabia

CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) is the most widely recognised qualification for Teaching English as a Foreign Language and is assessed by Cambridge University.

The certificate level course, CELTA (Certificate in Teaching English to Adults), is a highly practical, initial training course and is now run at the Riyadh Women’s and Men's Teaching Centre in Saudi Arabia.  

CELTA is an initial qualification for people who have little or no previous teaching experience. It is designed for those wishing to teach English to speakers of other languages (people whose first language is not English).

CELTA is highly regarded throughout the world.  It provides the skills you need and will make it easier to get a teaching job anywhere. It is internationally recognised and is particularly useful if you want to live and work abroad.

Entry requirements

Applicants must:

• Be at least 20 years of age at the beginning of the course
• Have a strong interest in language and a competence in English (both written and spoken) that enables them to undertake the course, ie near 1st language level, Cambridge defines this as a good C1 level on the Common European Framework.
• Have a standard of education which would allow entry to higher education in their country.

Acceptance onto a course is not automatic and prospective applicants must submit an application form and pre-interview task (by email is fine).  If these meet the required standard, applicants will be invited to a group interview at the Women’s or Men'sTeaching Centre in Riyadh. Suitable trainees are selected from the interviews and acceptance is not automatic after interview. Places on the course are limited and demand is high so early application is recommended.

Course elements

There are five main units of learning:

• Learners and teachers, and the teaching and learning context
• Language analysis and awareness
• Language skills: reading, listening, speaking and writing
• Planning and resources for different contexts
• Developing teaching skills and professionalism

Assessment

There is no final examination. There are two components of assessment:

1. Teaching practice: You will teach for a total of 6 hours, working with classes at two levels of ability. Assessment is based on your overall performance at the end of the 6 hours.
2. Written assignments: You will complete four written assignments: one focusing on adult learning; one on the language system of English; one on language skills and one on classroom teaching.

Observation

Observation of trained teachers is an important part of the course and trainees are required to observe at least six hours of classes during the course.

Course Dates at the Women's Teaching Centre, Riyadh

There will be a 4-week intensive CELTA course from 16 June to 11 July 2012 inclusive. Attendance of the course will be each weekday from 0830 until 1700 hours. Full attendance is required.

We will be accepting applications for this course from 1 May 2012. If you would like to apply for a place on the course, please visit this website for application information and documents from 1 May 2012. The closing date for applications will be 31 May 2012 at 1700.

Please note that you must complete both forms in detail.  If any information is missing, the application will be rejected. It is, therefore, essential to proofread and check the applications before you send them. We accept only one application per person.

There will be a 4-week intensive CELTA course from 5 May - 31 May 2012 inclusive. Attendance of the course will be each weekday from 0930 until 1730. Full attendance is required.

Course Fees (for men and women)

The course fee is 10,000 SAR. Following acceptance onto the course, a non-refundable deposit of 4500 SAR is required. Full fees should be paid at least 10 working days before the course starts.
