Climate Change

The International Climate Generation Programme

About the Programme

Climate change affects us all,  but it is young people who will inherit the impact of climate change in the decades to come.  And it is also young people who will rise to this challenge.  To do this, it is critical that young people who have the energy and commitment to tackle climate change, have the skills and the support they need to be active change agents both at the grass-roots and the global level.

Climate Generation is an international climate change project run by the British Council.   In the Middle East the project involves young people aged 18-35, from across the region. Twenty Five (25) motivated young people have been selected in collaboration with British Council partners from Kuwait,  the UAE and Libya to take part in the  Programme.  The project has run for a year and in 2010, the number of Climate Champions will expand to include a Regional Conference, along with the scope of the work being done in their communities.

How is it achieved?

The project provides the opportunity for Champions to develop and implement their own ambitious projects that will have real impact within their communities.  The Champions projects:

The Climate Generation Programme supports the young Champions by engaging them in capacity building workshops to help ensure that their projects are sustainable.  It trains them to develop project management skills, communication skills and it gives them access to a global network of British Council Champions who learn from one another.  These young people work together to make a positive difference and where possible, to input into international activities and agreements on climate change.
