Ghoulish fun was on offer at the British Council Vietnam teaching centre in Ho Chi Minh City this Halloween as students and teachers instead became ghosts and witches.
Visitors on the day might have been surprised to see classroom lessons swapped for all manner of ghostly games to celebrate the special day. Primary students (aged 7 - 10), secondary students (aged 11- 15), teachers and staff all took part in the fair to celebrate Halloween. It was a great event and a lot of frightening fun was had by all!
Students took part in four games. At each game the students could win points. After playing all of the games, the points were added up back in the classroom and the teacher awarded prizes to the top scorers.
Primary 4 student Nguyen Thu Ha said ‘The games were exciting. Halloween at the British Council is the best’.
Julia Stanton Assistant Teaching Centre Manager said ‘It was great to see the children, and teachers, so enthusiastic about the event. Some of the costumes were genuinely scary! Students and parents commented that it was one of the most memorable events we have ever held’.
The next day, a recent theatre production of Shakespeare’s Macbeth brought TNT Theatre to both the local stage and into our classrooms. The director of the play, Paul Stebbings, whose works have won many awards at the Munich Biennale, the Edinburgh Festival and the Tehran Festival visited the British Council HCMC and delivered a drama workshop to two of our lucky EYA Intermediate classes who enjoyed the opportunity to practice their English through drama.
Adult students had the opportunity to participate in free speaking and pronunciation clubs which are held on Saturday afternoons every week which serve as an extra opportunity to speak English outside the classroom. For individual help and advice, students can sign up for the free one to one counselling service where they can spend 15 minutes with a teacher who can offer them help or advice. These activities will continue to be offered into November and December.
