On 11 December 2010, we organised a multimedia exhibition (photo projection and film show) entitled ‘Long Bien Picture Show’ featuring the lives of people in the Long Bien area of Hanoi. This is a deprived area populated by some remarkable characters.
The Long Bien Picture Show is a collection of over 140 photographs and 4 films about the Long Bien area produced over the course of three months by four photographers (Boris Zuliani, Tran Xiu Thuy Khanh, Barnaby Churchill Steel and Jamie Maxtone-Graham) and four filmmakers from the Hanoi DOCLAB film centre (Tran Thi Anh Phuong, Pham Thu Hang, Do Van Hoang and Tran Thanh Hien).
The group of visual artists explored the very fabric of society through innovative photography and film to explore the life and times of this important part of the City of Hanoi. The exhibition was also a great opportunity to hold a site specific event that many of the Long Bien community were able to attend. The exhibition was held at the Sport Centre, 2 Phuc Tan Street – right at the heart of the project.
The Long Bien Picture Show is the second exhibition among the trilogy of works exploring lives of people living in different areas of Vietnam and you can click here to view all the works online.
The first exhibition entitled ‘Inacity Hanoi’ was held in May 2009. The exhibition was a great opportunity for Hanoians to explore the people that live in their city and listen their stories. Click here to see the e-version of ‘Inacity’ project dedicated to Hanoi.
The third exhibition entitled ‘Inacity Ho Chi Minh city’ will be held in Ho Chi Minh city from 18-24 February 2011 in the City Exhibition House, 92 Le Thanh Ton, District 1, HCMC.
