Belarus Child Protection

Project ‘State and civil society partnership in Belarus for improved child protection’

British Council Ukraine together with International non-governmental organisation ‘Understanding’ (Minsk) launched the project ‘State and Civil Society Partnership in Belarus for Improved Child Protection’ financed by the European Union.

The project will concentrate on fostering cooperation between local authorities and non-state actors to strengthen multi-sectoral and multi-agency approach to child protection in Belarus, including development of relevant mechanisms and recommendations. The project will be implemented during 2-year period by the British Council and INGO ‘Understanding’ together with international and Belarusian experts in Minsk, Vitebsk, Brest and Gomel oblasts.

The project programme includes the following components:

establishment of the core group for research and consultations
development and implementation of the training programme on methods of children’s rights protection and models of multi-sectoral approach
study tour to the UK to learn a multi-sectoral response to child abuse
establishment of multi-agency working groups and children’s reference groups with direct involvement of children into advisory process
consultations and round tables involving representatives of law enforcement agencies, social protection, health care, non-governmental organisations
development of Policy and Implementation Guidelines for Multi-Agency Collaboration to facilitate a comprehensive system for child protection
national project conference and results dissemination.
