Teacher Development Summer School
10 June – 18 June 2012
The British Council Ukraine and IATEFL Ukraine invite teachers of English (primary, secondary, tertiary) to take part in the Teacher Development Summer School.
We will offer the following courses:
TeachingEnglish TRAIN THE TRAINER
This course helps participants develop their professional expertise in ELT teacher training and prepares them to train other teachers. It looks at principles and practice in current approaches and methodology. An important feature of the course is micro training, where participants put learning into practice through peer training sessions. Topics covered in the course include teaching and training roles, learning styles, motivation, issues and challenges, feedback and evaluation.
TRAIN THE TRAINER (follow up)
This course is for those who has proven teacher training experience, did TRAIN THE TRAINER at previous summer schools or any other trainer development with the British Council.
TeachingEnglish TKT ESSENTIALS
This course provides teachers with an introduction to the basic theory associated with a communicative approach to English language teaching. Its structure and content are based on the syllabus of the Cambridge ESOL Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT). The course has three modules:
TeachingEnglish PRIMARY ESSENTIALS
This is a development course for teachers of English working with young learners aged 5 to 12. It is based on the reflective approach, requiring active experimenting with teachers’ own teaching. The course consists of six modules and contains audio, classroom video and community elements.
Course structure and content:
TeachingEnglish CERTIFICATE IN SECONDARY ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING
This course is aimed at practising teachers who work with learners in the 11-18 age range. It is a modular development course based on practical classroom methodology and assignments. Workshops on this course are balanced, varied, communicative, and creative; they encourage learner independence, so that participants can experience how motivating such a methodology is. Participants will reflect on their learning in order to develop their own knowledge and skills more effectively.

The summer school will be delivered by a team of highly qualified Ukrainian trainers which will be formed as soon as the course programme is finalised. The programme will depend on the number of applications for each course.
