Recent Events:
The TT International Inspiration launch – This was well attended with the UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown visiting the sport event organised by the young leaders of the 5 schools.
A major highlight was the participation with the young leaders and children that took part in the event of local athletes West Indies and National Cricketers Darren and Shurwyn Ganga, National Track & Field Athlete Darrel Brown, Paralympian Powerlifter Colin Greene. These athletes are also now local II ambassadors, and recently added to the list is local female track & field athlete and sports woman of the year 2010 Josanne Lucas.
Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics – Two Trinidad & Tobago young leaders were invited to attend the II reception with Lord Sebastian Coe to talk about their II experience and the impact it has had on them.
tt-our-projects-international-inspiration-news.htmInternational Inspiration aims to:
To transform the lives of millions of children in schools and communities across the world, particularly in developing countries, through the power of sport.
To create strong, sustainable and supportive systems within which children of all abilities, some from the most disadvantaged communities can enrich their lives by playing and excelling in sport.
A challenging ambition but International Inspiration London 2012 Olympic Legacy programme is confident that it can engage young people in physical education and high quality sport, through various projects under II that touch different parts of community, schools (primary and secondary) and sport development work at professional and community level, including coaches and clubs.
Some of these projects are:
Youth Sport Leadership – young leader training
II is providing leadership training for young people in schools and community groups and sport clubs through the delivery of sports festivals and setting up and managing sports clubs in their schools. We are working with young leaders who will then cascade this training to other schools and young leaders.
Youth Sport Leadership - Tutor Training
II is also providing leadership training for tutors under the Youth Sport Leadership from level 1-3 (local tutor, national trainer, international trainer)
ICES- International coaching Education Standards
This focuses on coaching education and training to a standard that is recognized internationally. The target audience are established and young community coaches across Trinidad & Tobago.
Sport Development Work
This area of work focuses on capacity building local sport organisations and community sport groups and clubs and we are currently developing a learning resource to be utilised in a series of courses surrounding sport management, administration, finance and marketing.
School Linking
Five local schools are linked with five schools in London working together on PE and sport curriculum initiatives. Both sets of schools have visited each other and have developed partnership plans that they will be working on over the next 2-3 years that will see them explore themes of conflict resolution and achieving higher education attainment to name a few, all through sport initiatives.
Tops & Game On collaboration
Enhancing a current sport resource in local primary and pre-schools to improve teacher’s ability to teach sport and PE and engage children of young ages.
