Quality Assurance in Higher Education
Quality Assurance in Higher Education is recognised as a priority item on the development agenda of countries throughout the Arab world; and the Syrian Ministry of Higher Education has very recently started the development of a national framework for quality assurance.
The British Council Syria and as part of a regional Quality Assurance Project with Egypt, Tunisia, Palestine, Morocco, Syria and the UK is providing consultancy to Help Syrian Higher Education in developing and implementing systems and methods that reflect best QA international practice, but which reflect the specific needs in Syria and the context in which the reform takes effect. The project also aims at providing support in the development of a national framework for quality assurance together with associated capacity building in higher education institutions and the Ministry.
Project Activities:
•A series of consultancy visits by UK experts in Quality Assurance following from last year.
•A series of workshops on Academic Excellence and intended learning outcomes run by UK consultants and attended by concerned officials from the Ministry and the five Syrian universities.
Syrian British Higher Education Symposium
1st and 2nd of March 2011
Syrian British Higher Education Symposium to be held on the 1st and 2nd of March in the aim of raising awareness amongst Syrian universities of UK education and creating better opportunities for education partnerships between both countries . This symposium carries in its steps grand global ways of presenting and promoting both Syrian and UK universities and in creating an education network between the participating professional people. This symposium plays a positive role in creating this network and building long term relationships between the Syrian and the UK universities, It also aims at focusing on the value of knowledge transfer and cultural exchange between the Syrian and UK universities.
Capacity Building Project
We work with the Ministry of Higher Education in the Capacity Building Project to enhance and develop the Syrian higher education through supporting specialised research and visits to the UK.

If you're selected for the project by our partners we will manage your Masters and PhD in the UK. We will design a plan aimed at training you and we will take into account your institution needs as well as your personal aspirations. We will match doctoral with other forms of appropriate training to suit your institutions goals. Your progress and development will be monitored and evaluated against indicators of success agreed between Syrian universities and the UK institutions. If you are a professional we encourage you to talk to us. Together we can look at your and institution's needs and aims. We can then identify aims and objectives of a visit or a project and determine how it will contribute to the development of the Syrian higher education then we design programmes and schemes or organise a visit to specialised UK institutions to achieve goals and objectives.
