The British Council is the United Kingdom’s international organisation for educational opportunities and cultural relations. Our purpose is to build engagement and trust for the UK through the exchange of knowledge and ideas between people worldwide.  We operate in more than 100 countries and territories worldwide.

We have over 22,000 members in our Libraries in Colombo and Kandy, and over 4,000 students in our two Teaching Centres. We provide information on all aspects of the UK, including EducationUK. We have a busy programme of activities and events and we administer exams, projects and outreach activities all around the island.
