IDEATORS

British Council’s flagship reality-TV Entrepreneurship Challenge

‘IDEATORS’ is the British Council’s flagship reality-TV Entrepreneurship Challenge. The aim of this television show is to create an interactive platform for a selected group of aspiring young entrepreneurs in Sri Lanka and the UK to present their innovation and entrepreneurial skills in a live and competitive environment to a large audience through television and online media, thereby promoting innovation and entrepreneurship among youth.

The first season “IDEATORS – Tomorrow’s Entrepreneurs” was organised as part of the National Entrepreneurship Week held in Sri Lanka in November 2008 and was aired on ETV in early 2009. In the first season of IDEATORS, 45 undergraduates from 13 Sri Lankan universities and seven undergraduates from six UK universities took part in a series of real life business challenges. Leading companies including Laugfs Holdings, Dankotuwa Porcelain, ODEL, DSI and Unilever partnered with the British Council to organise this first-of-its kind television show in Sri Lanka.

The hugely successful second season, “IDEATORS – Next Generation Entrepreneurs” was broadcast in early 2010 on Art Television. Season two was different in many ways to the first season, as it had six undergraduates from the UK and six undergraduates from Sri Lanka, divided in to two teams, competing against each other over 12 challenging episodes. One contestant from the losing team was eliminated at the end of each episode. The show was organised in partnership with Art Television and a number of corporate partners including Hilton Residencies, Keells Super, Reckit Benkiser, Pizza Hut, Sampath Bank, Lanka Institute of Fashion (LIFT), Majestic Cinema, Apollo Hospitals, Lake House Publishers, Highway Express, Dialog and Wild Drift. IDEATORS – Season 2, was one of the most innovative television shows of its kind which featured the famous Sri Lankan businessman Dian Gomes as the head of the panel of judges. The two seasons have attracted millions of viewers on television as well as on YouTube. Visit our YouTube site to view IDEATORS online.

IDEATORS 3 – DESIGN ENTREPRENEURS
With the success of its first and second seasons, the British Council is organising a new version of IDEATORS in 2011-12. The competition format has been reinvented to be more challenging to the contestants and more exciting to the viewers and the entire show will focus on business tasks designed around fashion design, fashion photography, interior design and graphics design etc.

GOAL
The goal of this programme is to inspire the youth (specifically undergraduates) to become entrepreneurial in their way-of-work and life. There will be 12 episodes, each featuring a fashion or fashion related business challenge aimed at measuring innovation and entrepreneurship as well as a number of other essential skills of the contestants.
The competitions will take place at different in-door and out-door locations.
