International Climate Champions 2010

Speaking out, improving understanding and inspiring positive action on climate change.

Do you care about the impact of Climate Change on people and the environment? Do you want to make a difference? Here's an opportunity to prove your dedication and commitment.

Seventy International Climate Champions in Sri Lanka and India with a passion for the environment and interest to work against the effects of climate change are making a difference. Join them and explore the gamut of opportunities to make a difference in the war against Climate Change.

We are now inviting applications from Maldivian youth (link to who can apply page) for the 2010 International Climate Champions programme. Three Maldivian youth will have the opportunity to join the existing champions from Sri Lanka and India and be a part of the growing global network of over 3000 dedicated Climate Champions across 60 countries.

WHO CAN APPLY?

If you:

are a Maldivian citizen
are aged between 18 and 25 years as at Sunday 10 October 2010 and
have a climate change project idea that could make a lasting impact on your community, nationally or internationally

then we want to hear from you!

HOW TO APPLY

You have two options to apply,

Option 1 – Online application
Submit the online application

Option 2 – Download the MS Word application
Download the application, fill it and send it to:  bc@dhivehinet.net.mv or thushara.gunasekera@britishcouncil.org
Subject of the email should be : MALDIVES ICC Application 2010

Your application should reach us on or before Sunday 10 October 2010.

We prefer to receive the online application form. But if you have a problem with your internet connection you could download the application form, fill it up and send by email to  bc@dhivehinet.net.mv or thushara.gunasekera@britishcouncil.org on or before the deadline.

POINTS TO REMEMBER

The preferred option is the online format, choose the downloadable option only if you are unable to fill the online application form.
The online application form will ‘time out’ if left unattended for 30 minutes, so gather your thoughts before you start filling it.

Two sections in the application will require some thinking before you start writing:

Section 2
In no more than 150 words tell us why you want to become an International Climate Champion. Illustrate your interest and the work you have been involved in so far in the area of Climate Change and Environment

Section 3
In no more than 350 words tell us about the project you would like to undertake for one year as an International Climate Champion. Please cover the following:
o Project aims and objectives
o How you will implement the project
o Finances required for your project and how you will fund it
o What your project will achieve (the impact and lasting
legacy)
o How you will measure the impact of the project

Go ahead, apply and stand a chance to be part of this growing network of 3000 Climate Champions around 60 countries across the world.

The International Climate Champions will be given many chances to develop themselves and go abroad for;

Training and Development
In-country training on media/communications/project management will be provided in partnership with TERI in India.

International Camp
To showcase Climate Change impacts and initiatives in the South Asian region.

The selected Climate Champions will have access
- to expertise in the field (India/SL/Maldives/UK)
- Seed funding for your projects on a case by case basis
- Access to national and international networks
- Access to national and international events
and programmes of BC and Partners
- Access to subject oriented BC publications –
mostly online
