In November 2009, representatives from the Government, industry and academia will come together to chart a way forward for English in the commercial and academic arena.
The British Council is organising the Third Policy Dialogue on November 18, 19 and 20, 2009 in New Delhi. The dialogue will feature the launch of ‘English Next: India’, which is being published by the British Council and written by David Graddol, a well-known U.K. writer, broadcaster and lecturer. The publication will highlight the status and issues in English language education in India. English Next: India is a sequel to David’s earlier books Future of English in 1997 and English Next in 2006.
The Policy Dialogue will primarily include the following issues relevant to the state and corporate sector:
Transforming the workforce for 2020In addition to above, the dialogue will include select case studies of teacher education programmes and online/offline resources of the British Council. It will also highlight challenge areas and reveal best practices that can potentially benefit the education system, teachers and learners. The recommendations emerging from the Policy Dialogue will be compiled in the form of a report and discussed in-depth with a panel of experts. Thereafter, these inputs will be forwarded to organisations that contribute to policy making in English language teaching and skills development.
