Language and social cohesion

The 9th International Language and Development Conference

British Council in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Ministry of National Languages and  Social Integration and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) is organising the 9th International Language and Development conference on Language and Social Cohesion which will be held in Colombo, Sri Lanka from 17 to 19 October 2011.

The conference provides a forum for discussing learning and innovation in the area of language and social cohesion and will build towards a collective outcome in a participatory way. As well as key note addresses, there will be parallel sessions, cross-cultural performance art events, and panel discussions. A publication of selected conference papers will be published after the conference. The programme will be designed so that special interest groups can follow a single theme over the three days while others can sample across several themes.

Language and the arts
