NEW 08 Proceedings and Outcomes

Enterprise Education Exhibition

As part of NEW 08 an Enterprise Education Exhibition called E3 was organised on 29th and 30th November 2008 at BMICH Colombo.

ENTERPRISE EDUCATION EXHIBITION OBJECTIVES

Currently in all education exhibitions in Sri Lanka the exhibitors are limited to education institutions. The prospective students who visit the stalls only receive information about the various education programmes that are available but they lack the knowledge of the skills and qualification today’s enterprises seek in their employees. Therefore E3 was organised to bring both business organisations as well as education institutions under one roof so that the visitors can understand 360° spectrum of the education and employment arena
To bring both UK universities and Sri Lankan universities under one roof and allow interaction between students and staff in order to share knowledge and explore possible partnerships
Provide a platform for the education institutions and the business organisations to showcase their innovative products, services, research and study courses etc

STRATEGIC AND EXHIBITION PARTNER
Aspirations Education was selected as the Exhibition and Strategic partner and was entrusted with the task of organising and conducting the exhibition and the roundtable discussion and action planning in partnership with the British Council.

FINDINGS

  1. Although it was expected to have minimum 25 stalls from Sri Lankan companies the target was not met mainly due to the reasons explained above in the IDEATORS heading and due to the short preparation time before the exhibition.
  2. The Sri Lankan universities who took part in the exhibition exhibited a number of innovative products they had developed from research. We were informed that several investors had shown serious interest in the products.
  3. Most of visitors to the exhibition were under the impression that it was an Education UK exhibition mainly because British Council was organising the exhibition.
  4. General understanding about ‘enterprise’ is seriously lacking amongst the public.
