SiThEn is a local project under British Council Intercultural dialogue (ICD) programme area. In keeping with our commitment to youth, this project will reach out to like minded youth like you, university students. It will bring together 60 young people representing 13 universities.
This project will discuss difficult and challenging issues facing Sri Lankan youth in the post-war context and will aim to equip them in meeting these challenges in a positive and healthy manner. It will also assist document Sri Lankan youth responses to the former ethnic conflict and possible collective action plans for future reconciliation and rehabilitation efforts.
There are currently 14 members comprising of the SITHEN core group Tranging from 21 to 25 yearshey represent Universities of Colombo, Moratuwa , Kelaniya , Jayawardenapura , Peradeniya and the Eastern University of Sri Lanka
Project Activities
Residential Camps/Workshops
A residential-camp was held in Maharagama in January 2009 which provided an induction to the project as well as networking opportunity for the-core group members and British Council staff invloved in the project. It was organsied by the British Council and conducted by trainers from Sage Training Pvt Ltd and Corporate Druids Pvt Ltd.
SITHEN 1
In May 2009, the first segment of 'SiThEn' was successfully concluded with over 60 University students representing the Universities of Ruhuna, Wayamba, Eastern, Sabaragamuwa, Jayawardenepura, Trincomalee, Uva and South Eastern attending a residential workshop in Polonnaruwa . It was organised and run by the Peer Leaders together with the support from the British Council and the continued assitance of the project trainers.
SITHEN 2
We now seek to broaden the network of Sri Lankan undergraduates that was created in the inaugural Intercultural Dialogue workshop held in Polonnaruwa in May 2009 by bringing together a further 60 Sri Lankan undergraduates representing the Universities of Sri Jayewardenepura, Colombo, Kelaniya, Moratuwa and Jaffna.
