Global School Linking project

WHAT IS GLOBAL SCHOOL LINKING?
A school partnership between two countries with diverse backgrounds has proven to be a powerful and exciting way of bringing an international dimension into the lives of those involved.

We are currently focusing on developing international awareness and intercultural understanding among schoolchildren and teachers in the UK and Sri Lanka through Global School Linking.

In Sri Lanka we work with schools and teachers to establish sustainable partnerships primarily with the schools in the UK. The British Council Sri Lanka initiated its Global School Linking (GSL) Programme in September 2004. Since then, 50 schools from all over the island have formed links with UK schools. The main aim of the programme is to link schools in Sri Lanka and in the UK through mutually beneficial curriculum based projects.

CAN I GET INVOLVED?
In order to take part in the programme Sri Lankan schools must meet the following criteria:

preferably the school has to be an amity school with English medium introduced for Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and Health Science (from grade 6 to 11 years onwards)
the school principal must appoint at least two teachers (GSL co-ordinators) and they have to be able to communicate well in English and should have the ability to use a computer (ICT skills). One teacher will be taking the lead role and the other will assist him/her
the school principal should be aware of the GSL programme and provide the fullest support for the teachers who coordinate it

If you are interested in getting involved please refer to the beginners pack and complete the application form. Please email or mail your application to info.lk@britishcouncil.org
