We warmly welcome Gill Westaway, our new Director Sri Lanka who has taken up her post from Monday 11 September 2006.
Gill has most recently been Director of the British Council Philippines since January 2002, and has worked for the British Council since 1982 when she first joined its Language Centre in Bogotá, Colombia as an English Teacher. Over the last twenty years she has worked in London, developing the now very well known IELTS test; in Kenya managing development projects and establishing a Teaching Centre; and in Indonesia as Deputy Director.
Apart from learning foreign languages (she is keen to learn Sinhala); Gill loves travel, reading, music, and film. Under Gill’s tenure British Council Philippines became the first British Council office in the East Asia region to gain recognition as an Investor in People (IIP) accreditation.
