British Council organises a discussion on the development of the Fashion Industry in partnership with SLDF 2011
Judith Rosser-Davies, specialist in public sector economic development in the UK, delivered a presentation on ‘Policy intervention to support the development of the fashion industry: the UK experience’, recently at the Sri Lanka Design Festival 2011. The presentation was organised by the British Council in partnership with the Sri Lanka Design Festival 2011. British Council South Asia Regional Director Stephen Roman along with senior staff of the University of Moratuwa and the Open University as well as Advisor to the Ministry of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development attended the event.
At the event, which was free and open to the public, Judith spoke of her experience in successfully securing policy support for the fashion sector in London. In her presentation, she provided an overview of public funding bodies and case studies of projects to demonstrate the rationale for public investment, project activities and the outcomes achieved for the fashion industry.
Having over ten years experience in public sector economic development in the UK, Judith has specialised in the development and support of London’s designer fashion sector at the London Development Agency since 2007. She was involved in the development of the investment plan to support new and emerging designers to develop thriving, sustainable businesses that contribute to the economy of London; and to support and promote London Fashion Week in order to strengthen its position internationally.
The British Council, as the knowledge partner for the Sri Lanka Design Festival, continues to promote the Creative Industries in Sri Lanka by offering knowledge-sharing opportunities with UK specialists like Judith Rosser-Davies and Sally Denton earlier this year.
British Council also launched it's Young Creative Entrepreneur award scheme at a special evening event at SLDF 2011. For more information about the Young Creative Entrepreneur awards please click here.
