Our work in society helps citizens and institutions contribute to a more inclusive, open and prosperous world and connects local issues to global themes, ranging from social action to diversity and youth issues.
We run programmes in partnership with local and international organisations who provide expertise in areas such as youth and social entrepreneurship, equal opportunity and diversity, migration, social inclusion and engagement, and active citizenship.
Our work promotes social change and voice and accountability for all. Key areas include institutional development, justice and the rule of law, civil society and economic development.
We seek to assist in the design, development and evaluation of justice and security initiatives that promote and protect universally agreed standards of human rights.
We cover regional development, enhancing the regulatory and business environment, inward investment, small enterprise development and the development of business related skills.
We facilitate dialogues and networks to raise awareness and support initiatives that address the continuing inequalities that women face in society such as discrimination in the workplace.
We link scientists globally and provide information for international researchers on jobs and funding in the UK. Equally, we encourage grass-roots discussion of science and sustainability.
Sport makes a significant contribution to building trust and cultural relations. We use sport as an important tool to build skills and develop confidence, especially for young people.
