LANGUAGE COURSES IN THE UK

The British Council Slovenia no longer offers an information and education enquiries service. However, we have prepared some useful information about studying English in the UK.

QUALITY OF COURSES

British Council runs the Accreditation UK scheme that guarantees the quality of services at over 370 private language schools, state colleges and universities. This means that when you choose a course at an accredited institution, you can be certain you will be taught by properly qualified teachers in a properly managed environment.

WHAT TYPES OF COURSES ARE AVAILABLE?

There are courses for people of all ages and interests. You can stay from one week to a full academic year. Some of the most common are:

General English
English for specific purposes
One-to-one and tailor-made courses
Courses for English teachers
English for Academic Purposes

WHAT ABOUT ACCOMMODATION?

Most schools can arrange accommodation for you. This can be:

homestay - you live with a family, either in your own room or sharing with another student, usually halfboard (breakfast and dinner) - average cost is about £110 a week.
residential accommodation - you live in college halls of residence or student houses or flats, usually in your own room but often with shared kitchen and bathroom.
hotels and hostels - from student hostels to five star hotels.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

Fees for courses vary greatly, mainly depending on the class size and the number of hours per week. Typical costs per week are:

tuition in larger classes (a group of nine or more people) - from £100 per week
intensive small group tuition (usually a group of eight or less people) – from £250 per week
tuition on an intensive executive course - £500 or more per week.
