The last day of Belgrade Design Week 2011 was entirely devoted to advertising. And not just any advertising, but the world’s best communication from the UK! With our support, representatives of six most creative, most famous and innovative independent international agencies and studios from the UK presented their work to the visitors of the "FUTURE2" conference at the Yugoslav Drama Theatre on 28 May 2011.
One after another, Samuel Payne & Paddy Frade (Mother London), Andy Cameron (Weiden+Kennedy), Shane RJ Walter (onedotzero), Simon Waterfall (POKE), Martin Postler & Ian Ferguson (PostlerFerguson), Daljit Sing (Digit) and Patrik Schumacher (Zaha Hadid Architects) had their lectures at , according to the Financial Times, “the best creative conference in the world”.
The representatives of these agencies inspired the audience with their award winning thinking, with details of their business strategies, fresh experiences in adapting to changes in the global economy and their expectations for the future. This unique day we called "FUTURE UK".
WHO WERE THE SPEAKERS?
Belgrade Design Week’s guest was Shane RJ Walter, co-founder and creative director of “onedotzero”, international contemporary production, public events, publishing, education agency, organization with a remit to promote innovation across all forms of moving image and interactive arts. Shane founded sister company “onedotzero industries” to produce and consult for the world’s best-known brands and bands from Nike to MTV, U2 to the Pet Shop Boys. He is a regular speaker, presenter, chair and jury member for international film festivals, design conferences, agencies, colleges and awards including D&AD, Design Museum Designs of the Year, BBC Film Network, British Council, Vienna, Rotterdam, Sydney, Melbourne and Zurich Film Festivals.

“Mother London” is the most awarded UK’s independent advertising agency and is widely regarded as the most creative and progressive agency family in the world. It has offices in London, New York and Buenos Aires. Founded around a kitchen table in 1996, 14 years later “Mother” now has over 400 employees on three continents. It is the agency of record for many world famous brands including: Coca-Cola, Diet Coke, Dell, Stella Artois, Boots, Post Office, Schweppes, IKEA, COI (Government anti drugs), PG Tips, Pot Noodle and Amnesty International. Mother London have won Campaign’s Agency of the Year in 2008, 2002 and 2001, the British Television’s Advertising Awards’ Agency of the Year twice, one of the most outstanding Latin American agencies of the year” by AdLatina and countless other international awards for marketing.
MARTIN POSTLER & IAN FERGUSON / POSTLERFERGUSON
PostlerFerguson is a London-based product, graphic and interaction design firm. Founded in 2007 by Ian Ferguson and Martin Postler after their graduation at the Royal College of Art, the company explores issues of technology, culture and economics through design strategies based on thorough research. Their design approach is very systematic, almost scientific, and aims at creating a frame in which mistakes can happen. They work with extensive network of designers, filmmakers, artists and manufacturers to meet their client’s needs. In addition to their design services, PostlerFerguson work in partnership with ADDA Products Ltd. to offer product development, prototyping, and distribution services in China.
Wieden+Kennedy is one of the largest independently-owned advertising agencies in the world known for its work for Nike including the tagline "Just Do It". It is founded by Dan Wieden and David Kennedy in Portland, Oregon, USA. London office was founded in 1998 with just a handful of people. Now they have a family of around 150. Wieden+Kennedy is one of the most-awarded agency in the world. It had created original contents for various brands under the moniker “W+K Entertainment”. Its productions include “Battlegrounds”, an MTV2 series showcasing street basketball; a documentary about Brazilian football players “Ginga”; and Road to Paris, documenting Lance Armstrong's path to his third Tour de France victory in 2001. It also made advertisement for Coke, Honda, Microsoft, Chrysler…
Simon Waterfall has been a creative director since he was 16. After studying his Masters in industrial design at the Royal College of Art, he co-founded Deepend design in London. It blossomed to 350 staff in nine offices around the world and became the number one creative agency in the UK for three years running and number one in the world in 2001. In 2001, with five partners, he set up Poke. It become the number one digital studio in the UK in 2006 and is part of the advertising company Mother. He became the youngest and first digital president of the D&AD and was awarded the title of Royal Designer of Industry, the highest honor in design.
Daljit Singh is a multi award winning creative director and founder of Digit, one of the world’s longest established digital agencies. His creative philosophy has been based around the idea of simple human interaction, connecting people using technology. Daljit has recently been invited to join the ‘International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences’, was featured in the Financial Times’s Top Creative 50 minds for two consecutive years and is one of the global most respected speakers on creativity.
PATRIK SCHUMACHER / ZAHA HADID ARCHITECTS
Patrik Schumacher is partner at Zaha Hadid Architects and founding director at the AA Design Research Lab. He joined Zaha Hadid in 1988. Schumacher studied philosophy and architecture in Bonn, London and Stuttgart, where he received his Diploma in architecture in 1990. In 1999 he completed his PHD at the Institute for Cultural Science, Klagenfurt University. He has been teaching at various architectural schools in Britain, Continental Europe and the USA since 1992. In 1996 he founded the "Design Research Laboratory" with Brett Steele, at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London, and continues to serve as one of its co-directors.
