Profiling UK women in science

These pages profile twenty-two leading UK women scientists and engineers. The women come from many different backgrounds and are an inspiration to girls and women considering a career in science, engineering and technology (SET). In some cases their achievements have caused a revolution in their field. In others, their significance is due more to the originality of the contribution or its impact on society. Many are active in encouraging more women to enter SET.

Inevitably, the selection of such a limited number of entries is to an extent arbitrary and barely scratches the surface of women's contribution to scientific discovery and engineering excellence.
