TVR2 FameLab Competition has named its winners!

Ionut Topala, the winner of the 1st prize, represented Romania at the International FameLab Final which took place on 6 June, in Cheltenham, in the UK. He competed with the other first place winners from the UK and the other eight countries in South-East Europe.

The winners

After the national final from 26 May, the following winners were chosen:

Ionut Topala has a PhD in Physics, and is a university assistant at the Faculty of Physics of the Alexandru Ioan Cuza University in Iasi. His presentation ‘ What is Plasma?’ brought him the grand prize of the TVR FameLab competition.

Cristiana Bercea, a student in the XI grade at the National College Sf Sava in Bucharest, managed to impress the audience with her presentation ‘ Is There an Anatomo-Physiologycal Support for Decisions?’ which resulted in her being the second runner-up.

Toma Badescu, a student at the Faculty of Physics in Bucharest, is the third runner-up with his presentation ‘ Time Dilation in the Theory of Relativity’ which managed to win over the jury.
Cristina Negut, image © Dan Cadar Cristina Negut, a student in the XI grade at the National College Sf Sava in Bucharest, impressed the audience by proving that Winston Churchill was a carrot. She won the audience’s prize after receiving more than 500 votes from those present at the final.

The participants received prizes from System Plus, a Dell, HP and Symantec partner,  National Geographic magazine and Carturesti Library.

ABOUT TVR2 FAMELAB

FameLab is an initiative of the Cheltenham Science Festival in the UK. This is the third year when the contest is going international in Romania and in the region of South-East Europe through the British Council network.
The aim of TVR2 FameLab is to encourage young scientists (18 to 35 years old) to inspire and excite public imagination with a vision of science in the 21st century, in an accessible, interactive and creative way, in front of a panel of expert judges and a live or TV audience.
