Do you know how to conjure up a fire tornado? Or that sound and light are in fact waves? Would you like to find out if and how much they differ from water waves or the “Mexican” one? Have you ever checked how to make smoke rings, where a rainbow comes from and what is this “fractal” thing actually is? Is it possible to SHOW the answers to these questions in an interesting way?
The Polish audience has checked it out for itself during six fascinating, interactive, educational theatre shows Visualise – the beauty of science by an award-winning Welsh company science made simple from Cardiff. Live science demonstration shows took place on 7 & 8 March 2011 in Warsaw and 9 & 10 March 2011 in Kraków, invited to Poland by the British Council in cooperation with Kamienica and Groteska theatres, Copernicus Science Centre and Centre for Innovation, Technology Transfer and University Development of the Jagiellonian University.
Less explanation, more exploration!
Visualise - the beauty of science was a truly engaging spectacle, an experiment that began by removing all verbal explanation from science made simple’s award-winning interactive presentations. Physical theatre, live demonstrations, projected images and music combined to create a wordless experience of wonder. There was no trickery. It was live. Ordinary objects were used in extraordinary ways to create swirling whirlwinds, giant smoke rings and dancing flames. The lack of language meant that the show was suitable for all ages. A playful mix of interactive experiment and mischievous fun. The audience was invited to make their own observations and discoveries, igniting their curiosity and ultimately motivating them to find out for themselves how the world works.
