PRELIMINARY ENGLISH TEST

available in paper-based and computer-based versions

If you are a teenager choose the for schools version of the exams.
They suit your interests and experience better and their certificates are equally valid.

The examination consists of 3 components:

READING / WRITING

Reading/Writing (1 hour, 30 minutes; 60 marks)

The Reading component consists of 5 tasks. The tasks can be multiple choice, gap filling, multiple matching, true/false questions.

The Writing component comprises 3 tasks. The candidate is requested to fill in the form, transform 5 sentences and write a text of about 100 words in length.

Listening
The Listening (ca 30 minutes; 25 marks) component contains 4 parts. Each text is heard twice. The types tasks used include: multiple choice, gap filling, multiple matching.

Speaking

The standard format of the Speaking component (ca 10-12 minutes; 25 marks) is two candidates and two examiners. This component consists of four parts. In part one the candidates talk to each other about themselves, their home, hobby, school or work, etc. In part two the candidates do a task together. In part three each candidate talks briefly about the given pictures or photos and in part four the candidates discuss a topic connected with the pictures used in part 3.

The oral part of PET is graded in Poland by experienced and highly trained examiners.

In March 2011 University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations introduced an extended certification of its English language exams. Candidates taking the Cambridge English language exams who do not achieve a passing grade but have demonstrated language ability at the Council of Europe Framework of Reference level below the examination they have taken will be awarded a certificate showing that level. The following information will be given as the overall grade:

HOW TO PREPARE FOR PET?

A preparation course is not a requirement for those wanting to register for PET, although candidates may find it beneficial to prepare for the examination under the guidance of an experienced teacher. . You can register for a course in our Teaching Centre in Warsaw and Krakow or other language schools which run preparation courses

A wide range of books on preparing for PET is available at most language bookshops in Poland. Preparation materials are also available in the British Libraries in Poland.
