Marieke Mulders

Name: Marieke Mulders

Course: BA in Visual Cultures, Film and Television

Status: Final year

Place of study: Lillehammer University College

My name is Marieke Mulders, and I’m 25 years old. I started my year as a visiting student at Goldsmiths in September 2005. Before I came to Goldsmiths I had finished my first year of a BA in Visual Cultures, Film and Television at my home university; Lillehammer University College in Norway.

Having spent one year in London before, I knew I wanted to go back to that lively city. I just love the ongoing pulse of London; there is always something happening, always something to do, whatever your interests are. There are plenty of universities to choose from in London though, but when I heard from friends that Goldsmiths has a good reputation and found out that my home university had an exchange program with Goldsmiths, my choice wasn’t too hard. And I didn’t regret my choice. When my year here was about to end I just wanted to stay, however my home university was waiting for me, and I left with a promise to myself to return to Goldsmiths for a postgraduate program. At Goldsmiths I have been able to do courses that my home university did not offer me, such as Art Therapy, Journalism and London Theatre. Throughout my year at Goldsmiths I did seven different courses- I enjoyed them all a lot. I learnt some Spanish, some acting, went to see a lot of quality theatre, visited Art Therapy studios, wrote a few journalistic pieces and made a short film. The quality of the teaching was excellent, and my tutors were all very friendly. Through my courses I made new friends from different nationalities that I will stay in touch with and never forget! I feel like I’ve learnt a lot through my year at Goldsmiths, through my courses as well as through my friends, my job, flatmates and simply by observing how things function in the busy capital of London.

I have no doubt in recommending London, New Cross and Goldsmiths College to all of you out there that haven’t yet made up your mind. You won’t regret it.
