Records and archives management

The British Council is subject to the Public Records Act 1958. After a period of 30 years, records of historical value are transferred to the National Archives in Kew, where they may be consulted by members of the public through searching the online catalogue. In addition, some archival material is held in approved specialist repositories.

National Archives

In August 2007, the National Archives completed an assessment of our information management. The assessment was conducted against the Lord Chancellor’s Code of Practice on the Management of Records issued under section 46 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000. An Assessment Summary of the findings and recommendations and our Action Plan in response to the assessment, have been published by the British Council and the National Archives. These documents can be found on this page.
